Computer Shopper - SX2 Media Labs

Computer Shopper Magazine (US) has been covering consumer technology for more than 30 years. The magazine made its debut as a 350 page publication, reaching the 800 page mark in the early 1990’s.

ComputerShopper is the leading consumer-oriented site that provides reviews, product roundups, help and how-to articles for computer users. It has a comparison shopping component that allows buyers to connect with the lowest prices on technology products from online sellers.

Their challenges included transitioning the print magazine to an online only publication without sacrificing audience, migrating more than 10,000 articles, creating solutions that support editorial content life cycles and have the agility to respond to changes in the featured products and display advertising and providing users with a website that inspires continued confidence in the magazine, despite migration to web.

Aplyca implemented a full eZ Publish solution including eZ Publish and eZ Find that together with eZ Premium formed the perfect match for magazines requiring enterprise open source with corporate support. The CMS allowed for publishing in different channels, including video. They also created easy-to-use blog for editors to record new product releases and first impressions, built infrastructure to support high traffic and integrated a flexible advertising engine.

Some highlighted eZ features and functionality include:
● eZ Publish installation for media
● Enhanced editorial workflow with content assignments, multi-step approval flow with scheduled publishing
● Enhanced banner positioning integrated with 247 Real Media, the leading ad engine for publishers worldwide
● Integration with CNET database to display pricing information on more than 600.000 products

After the site launch, Computer Shopper experienced its most profitable quarter so far and has reported a surge in organic search engine traffic. With a robust and stable CMS to support it, ComputerShopper announced the magazine was going to migrate fully to its web edition, following the path of several tech publications in the U.S. They also won Site of the Month Award.

"We are very impressed with the work that Aplyca has done for ComputerShopper.com. They are easy to work with, flexible and professional. We have seen great results due to their work on our content management system," Josh London, General Manager of SX2 Media Labs (owners of Computer Shopper Magazine) said.
