Requirements

Technologies used and supported systems

eZ Publish software is built relying on existing technologies and standards, mainly :

  • PHP scripting language
  • SQL database
  • XHTML version 1.0
  • XML 1.0
  • Java JRE when eZ Find search engine is used

This is only regarding the main components, for more details, please consult the documentation with in-depth information.
Regarding the question "is this supported by eZ Publish", several details must be considered qualifying a platform as "supported" or not. We will introduce the following level of platform support:

  • Certified platform for eZ Publish Premium : The platform is the safest and more optimized platform for eZ Publish use. It is our recommendation for business critical projects. The platform is supported and certified for eZ Publish Premium. This means that our QA certification team has been running succesfully intensive certification tests on the platform, and that we can fully support this platform in the realm of an eZ Publish Premium support and maintenance agreement. It also means that the added value tools that we offer optionally as part of our Premium services, such as Monitoring, Automatic patching or semi-automatic patching can be used without any issue.
  • Approved platform for eZ Publish Premium : The platform has been approved by our QA certification team, this means that eZ Publish can run on the platform, but that performances, load capabilities as well as other behaviors might be non optimal in some utilization context. We recommend, in the case of choosing an approved platform, to run your own internal QA process including stress and performance testing in order to tune your installation and infrastructure to fit your need. Approved platform can still benefit of our full support and maintenance guarantees provided in our Premium services. However, maintenance and monitoring tool use might need additional work from our team to be set-up if required. Issues relating to non optimal behaviour compared to capacity of certified platform will be handled as support issues and not as part of our guarantee.
  • Compatible platform for eZ Publish : The platform is satisfaying the purely technical requirements of eZ Publish software, so, from a technical point of view, eZ Publish should execute. The platform is however not managed by our QA certification team and eZ Systems doesn't insure and guarantee its good operation. eZ Publish Premium Support and maintenance can be ordered in order to support an installation relying on such a platform, but the guarantee won't apply and, despite you will benefit from all the support services (assistance through support tickets) and from the various maintenance releases and services, no bug fix guarantee will be insured as any issue related to the platform will not fall under our responsability. Maintenance and monitoring tools will not be available. eZ Systems do not advice such a platform for production use.

Approved and certified platforms

The list of approved and certified supported platform at the current date is defined below for the latest stable version of eZ Publish. Keep in mind that our QA team is working hard to increase the number of the certified supported platforms. If you have special needs or want to know more about platform support of previous versions, please contact us.

This list is available for new Premium agreement ordered from the current date, if you ordered previously a Support and Maintenance service and your eZ Publish Version is not anymore offered, please contact your sales representative to know what are the supported versions and platforms covered by your agreement.

Performance notes

For the best performance, we recommend using Linux and MySQL. Some other factors that may influence the performance of your site are:

  • The number of page views per unit time.
  • The number of concurrent users.
  • The number of content nodes. This can affect search and navigation speed when you have several hundred thousand nodes.
  • Update frequency, e.g. how often your content is changed.
  • The complexity of your templates. (For better performance, you could replace complex pieces of template code with custom operators that do the same in PHP code.)
