eZ Components 1.0 Release Candidate 1

eZ systems is proud to announce the first release candidate of eZ Components 1.0. After this release we will focus on documentation and clearing any issues reported with the release candidate. We will not make any changes to the APIs unless forced by bug fixing.

eZ Components

eZ Components is a collection of high quality independent building blocks for PHP application development that will both speed up development and reduce risks. An application can use one or more components effortlessly as they all adhere to the same naming conventions and follow the same structure. All components are based on PHP 5.1, except for a few that require the new Unicode support that will be available from PHP 6.

  • Designed for enterprise PHP application development
  • Open source and licensed under the New BSD license
  • Clear IP rights
  • Thoroughly documented
  • Developed, supported and maintained by eZ systems

You can read more about eZ Components on the eZ Components product page and take a look at the list with descriptions of all components available in the final version.

Changes

Since the release of eZ Components beta2 we have done even more tweaking of the classes to make them more user friendly. We have also gone through all our exception code to make sure it is used in a consistent way throughout the library.

For a full list of changes see our Changelog.

Download

eZ Components can be installed directly through the freely available downloads or by using the PEAR Installer. If you want to test it by using the PEAR Installer, please take a look at the introduction article, which contains installation instructions. Installing the eZ Components with the help of the PEAR Installer is highly recommended, as it is the most convenient and safest way.

Articles

There are articles available online for you to get started with eZ Components. The article An Introduction to eZ Components contains detailed installation and configuration instructions for both installation methods (download or PEAR Installer).

The second article is A Joyride to eZ Components beta2. This article describes some of the changes introduced between beta1 and beta2 and takes a specific look at the Translation and ConsoleTools packages.

A third article explains Image Manipulation with eZ Components . With eZ Components, you can analyse and scale images, also apply visual effects and other manipulations to them.

Documentation

The documentation is available online at http://ez.no/doc/components/overview. Most of the API documentation is completed. The final release will feature better introductory articles for each package.

Training Courses

eZ systems, the creator of eZ Components, has started to offer training courses on the eZ Components. Please consult the training calendar for further information..

Roadmap

RC1 is the last planned release of eZ Components before the release of the first stable version. We will use the time until the release to:

  • write improved introduction articles for all components
  • going through the inline documentation to make sure everything is documented
  • fix all bugs reported

We expect the following release dates:

  • Jan 30th 2006 - eZ Components 1.0 (stable)

Depending on the feedback we get on RC1 we may decide to release more release candidates before the final release.

Feedback

If you have feedback in form of suggestions or questions, please leave a message in the eZ Components forum. Should you find any bugs, please report them through our bug tracker.

Logos

For early adopters, we have created Powered by eZ Components logos for use on their Web site to indicate that their applications run based on eZ Components.
